Vinluan: Managing exercise and fitness for children

MAKING and retaining the right children’s fitness program isn’t a child play. Fitness professionals know the effects of health and fitness to children. As with any other programs, managing is crucial for its success and is a responsibility of the fitness professional that conducts and implements the program.

Managing children’s exercise is not merely teaching or giving instructions for the sake of letting them follow routines to learn a specific movement or the program itself. It needs more than just what an instructor knows to teach which is sometimes not taken from the book.

Aside from the credentials, certifications, experiences that usually go with who the instructor is would not suffice to meet the required ideal teaching abilities that are expected of him. Although our educational system requires this professional aspect in hiring school physical education teachers as well as local fitness center instructors, not everyone in the field has the skill in managing children’s exercise and fitness.

Kids are exuding in energy and are hyperactive, but easy to get bored; they are playful and won’t put up with anything less than fun. These experience in and of it is what they do, and that which they and their parents evaluate during and after their participation to exercise and fitness activities in different organizations.

Kids are most demanding in any niche market they are served, and if you want kids to be as interested in exercising for fitness, you can’t as a rule; solely rely on why doing something now will benefit them later. You have to make children want what they do to make them interested to work out.

To be able to maintain fitness and exercise interest among children, Sports instructors must possess a demonstrated ability of their skills; they must have good teaching ability to reach kids, they must possess good organizational skills otherwise kids in class will just run in amok.
Instructors must also think of creative ways of recognizing their achievements to motivate children to participate in practice willingly.

A very important skill that instructors must possess is interpersonal communication skills because they won’t just be communicating with children, but with their parents too, and they need to be effective in both. Being the face of the child’s fitness program, they should be competent in their written and verbal abilities, as well as being a promoter and a salesperson knowing the goal of every fitness program is retention, it is their duty to come up with new programs.

Having these skills in hand in addition to personal characteristics of being intellectually flexible and willing to try new things, generally happy, full of energy and enthusiastic by nature, plus a lot of stamina to work with kids and parents the whole day will help instructors manage exercise and fitness among kid’s effectively and with fun.
