ST. JOSEPH unwrapped the season with an impressive performance beating JIREH squad, 77-56, in the on-going eliminations of the bracket C of the 8th Panagbenga Cup Invitational Basketball Tournament.
After cruising their way into a 16-0 run in the first five minutes of the first quarter, St. Joseph never backed down for their first win Wednesday night at the Easter College gym.
Bem Pimentel, Alvin Alindoza, and Ralph Mendoza delivered a triple threat performance in the first period combining for 15 points as St. Joseph leads JIREH with a thirteen point lead, 21-8.
St. Joseph then padded their lead in the second quarter as Pimentel, Bogs Gatbonton, and Dave Stapely continued to convert baskets closing the first half at 37-25.
Riding high with the momentum in the first half’s performance, St. Joseph continue to pounce JIREH as Stapely, Alindoza, and Mendoza commanded the team with a 15 point advantage, 56-41.
The JIREH squad then tried to stay on track at the start of the pay-off canto with Kerby Rillera, Zaldy Rivera, and Kits Ocawe stepping up the ballgame, but was doused with cold water as second stringers E.J Cordoviz and Jun Ramos continue to deliver the damage putting St. Joseph in front 72-52, with 2:33 remaining.
“We actually made adjustments sa line-up ng team, we hope that we are more capable of entering the finals this time,” said St. Joseph playing coach Stapely after the game.
Meanwhile team captain Pimentel said he positively looks forward towards the following games for the season.
“Whatever na kulang sa team last time medyo napunan ngayon, I think kumpleto kami sa positioning lalo na sa slasher roles na wala dati. Right now everyone is just focused na manalo sa mga succeeding games,” Pimentel quipped.
Pimentel and Alindoza scored 11 points each for St. Joseph, while Stapely added nine points with six rebounds.
Rivera scored a game high 15 points for JIREH, while Ocawe added 11 points as Ryan Rillera delivered 10 points including three blocks.
