BBEAL events heats up the weekend

WITH the collegiate competition season almost over, Baguio-Benguet Educational Athletic League season 27 is off to spice things this weekend with their multiple events playing in different venues.

"We'll sure to close the BBEAL season with high hopes and grand spectacles," said BBEAL 2013 commissioner and University of the Cordilleras Student Affairs and Services head Aleck Mapalo.

Lined up to sum BBEAL’s second phases is the search for Mr & Ms BBEAL pageant proper Saturday evening, while the athletics and wushu competitions will be held in various venues.

Athletics will be housed at the Teachers Camp oval with six competing schools to participate while the wushu-sanshuo event will be held Saturday at Camp Seven with the tao lu competitions at the Baguio Convention Center on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the first ever search for Mr & Ms BBEAL Ambassadors of Youth will be housed at the University of Baguio starting at 7 p.m. with five ambassador and ambassadress contestants will square-off using their beauty and brawns.

Host UC will also close season 27 with an awards gala night on March 15 with the turnover ceremonies to next season’s hosts Baguio Central University.

Awarding rites will also be given to excelling athletes as well as the winning teams for the 18 different sporting events.

BBEAL's second phase has eight sport events including softball, lawn tennis, baseball, judo, taekwondo, and football.

UC topped both men and women’s lawn tennis, including the women’s softball and judo.

UB meanwhile dominated the men and women’s taekwondo and men's judo with Saint Louis University topping the baseball contest, while Benguet State University took the football crown.

Other participating schools for this season's include Baguio College of Technology, Cordillera Career Development College, University of the Philippines-Baguio, Pines City Colleges, Philippine Military Academy and Benguet State University.
