UC, UB split BBEAL Wushu

THE University of the Cordilleras Jaguars and the University of Baguio Cardinals top the competition as they bag the overall crown in the men’s and women’s wushu event of the Baguio-Benguet Educational Athletic League season 27 over the weekend.

The Jaguars dominated the men's with a 5-2-2 gold-silver-bronze medal haul, while the Cardinals lorded in the distaff towing away a 4-1-2 tally.

The men Jaguars took the overall crown in the Sanshou competition as Lemer Maximino (52kg), Joshua Pacio (56kg), Mark Stephen Loman (65), and Harold Banario (70kg) snatched four gold mints for UC, while Jeremy Pacatiw added one bronze.

Meanwhile, April Osenio (52kg), Rowenalyn Minong (56kg), and Charline Cawed (60kg) delivered three gold medals for UC in the sanshou female contest.

UB swept the competition in the women’s Taolu contests as Phoebe Sherae Langaon topped the 42 Steps Tai Ji Quan and the Tai Jian event, while Remelyn Villanueva took two golds after scoring the Chang Quan and Short Weapon competition.
UB tallied a 2-4-2 to secure the second place overall for the men’s, while Cordillera Career Development College closed at 1-1-3 for a third place finish. Saint Louis University came out with a 1-0-2 while Benguet State University with 0-1-0.

In the distaff, UC placed second with a 3-2-1 outing as the CCDC Admirals settled for third with 0-2-1 best. The SLU Navigators came away with 0-1-2 while Pines City Colleges recorded 0-1-0.

Although not bearing in the medal tally, the UC male and female wushu team bagged gold and silver in the group synchronized performance while SLU scored bronze.

The collegiate season will close with an awards gala night on the March 15 with the turnover ceremonies to next season’s host school. Awarding rites will also be given to excelling athletes as well as the winning teams for the 18 different sporting events.

Other participating schools for this season’s include Baguio College of Technology, University of the Philippines-Baguio, Philippine Military Academy and Benguet Central University.
