UB tops Flowerfest Arnis

THE University of Baguio Arnisadors emerged as the over-all winners in the recently concluded Panagbenga Arnis National Championships held at the Baguio City National Auditorium.

Reaping a total of 22 gold, 12 silver, and 12 bronze medals, UB dominated the competition backed by International Modern Arnis Federation - Baguio City Chapter as part of the month-long celebration of the 19th Baguio Flower Festival.

UB snatched a total of 8 gold, 7 silver, 5 bronze from the “anyo” contest and added another 14-5-7 from the “labanan” competitions.

Rey Abogadi took two gold mints after topping the secondary anyo-creative solo and double baston event, while Sheen Pakilan took gold and silver after dominating the high school 52-55kg labanan and double baston event accordingly. Eric Cagawa snatched silver in the double baston.

In the secondary distaff, Felvy Ah-ul generated two gold medals topping the girls double baston and 48-52kg novice contest while Cristal Baltazar lorded in the girls solo baston and 30-40kg contest.

Ezarai Yalong added a gold and silver after dominating the 44-48kg novice and solo baston performance accordingly. Shaira Salungbay added another bronze after placing third honors in the girls’ solo baston event.

In the seniors’ men, Oliver Magallis, Raymart Gutierrez, and Elmer Batani, who also lorded the seniors 51kg and below, took the top three spots in the solo and double baston performance respectively.

Meanwhile Lovely Collado, Ruth Ann Lavarias, and Cindy Monte took the lead in the senior women’s solo baston event. Collado also scored two gold medals in the double baston and 48-52kg advance, while Lavarias ranked second in the women’s double baston and 44-48kg advance. Mher Becyagen took the third spot in the seniors’ double baston contes.

Josh Yalong (55-60kg), Joemarson Abogadi (60-55kg) each bagged themselves gold medals, while Rayven Gipit (48-51kg) and Cerdic Masilang (42-47kg) added silver and bronze in respectively. Daves Guron (55kg) and Raniel Abania (55-65kg) took away gold medals apiece, while Geoffrey Farinas and Eddie Cudao identical with a third place finish in the secondary boy’s novice labanan contest.

Aaron Balansi lorded in the seniors’ advance 51-55kg contest, whereas Hernan Galiling (51-55kg) and Oliver Magalis (60-65) each secured a silver medal, while Richard Tambal (60-65kg) added one bronze.

In the seniors’ advance distaff side, Bernadeth Beltran bagged a silver medal in the 52kg and above category, while Bernadeth Pidlao (44-48kg) and Dale Sudicalan (40-44kg) each gained a bronze medal.

University of the Cordilleras ranked second with 5-11-14, Philippine National Police Police Regional Office-Cordillera followed with 5-9-6, and NIIT-Baguio in third runner-up.

PANC 2014 was presented by the IMAF-Baguio Chapter in partnership with NIIT-Baguio, AMA College, and Baguio City Arnis Federation.
