CHRISTIAN Galace and Erwin Calixterio relived their collegiate days and combined for 54 points in powering Team DOS against the luckless Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University Stingers, 101-96, in the ongoing 8th Panagbenga Cup Invitational Basketball Tournament.

Galace opened the scoring with a 13 in the opening canto while Calixterio picked up what his former teammate in the UB Cardinals with 11 points in the second period as Team Dos enjoyed a 19 point advantage at the turn of the break 58 – 39 at the Easter College gym.

"Medyo sinuwerte lang ngayon pero at least balik na ulit kami sa pagkapanalo, naunahan lang namin sila during the first half since then naging tuloy-tuloy naman ang suwerte," said Galace.

DMMMSU slightly recovered at the close of the third canto narrowing the gap at 76-72, behind Eugene Ponce, Dimmary Estoesta, and Abul Aljarari who chipped in 20 points.

But the homegrown collegiate all-star erected another ten point lead, 92-82, with 5:36 left behind Galace and Calixterio's combined 13 point outburst in the first five minutes of the payoff period.

But a 10-0 run late in the fourth period by the Stingers tied the ball game at 91 all with 1:55 remaining capped by a Carlo Pedroso basket.

Sensing urgency, Galace took charge late converting the next four points via fastbreak and extend the lead at 96-92, with 54 seconds remaining.

“Actually medyo kinabahan rin kami after na magawa nilang i-pantay ang score during the fourth quarter, during that time halos pagod na rin kasi lahat ng key players sa team,” said DOS playing coach Elixer Dullas after the game.

“Siguro yun ang possible disadvantage namin kung nagawa nilang i-extend sa overtime, malamang kami ang kinapos.” Dullas added.

Galace scored a game high of 29 points while Calixterio added 25. Jeff Macadaeg came up with 15 including three-of-three from the three point line.

Kevin De Luna led the scoring for DMMMSU with 18 points, while Aljarari added 16 including seven rebounds.
