LYCEUM Northwestern University Dukes displayed a resounding victory after edging University of Baguio Cardinals, 84-79, to secure their fourth straight in the on-going open bracket eliminations of the 8th Panagbenga Cup Invitational Basketball Tournament.

After being trailed 17-23 in the first quarter of the ballgame, the Dukes rallied to control the next three periods and improve their team standings recently at the Easter College gym.

“Definitely the team will go for a sweep in the eliminations, nagkaroon na kami ng feel sa mga teams na nakalaro at napanood naming maglaro. Nasa amin ang momentum and the team feel great,” said Lyceum head coach Angel Gumarang.

“We hope we can do the same performance all throughout the season, we just need to always prepare and condition ourselves,” Gumarang added.

After trailing by six points at the end of the first buzzer, Lyceum charged to control the ballgame after George Alipio dropped a three-point shot to steal the lead, 31-30, with 4:28 remaining in the second quarter.

The Cardinals then tried to regain control of the ballgame but Yanga, Aljic Aquino, and Julius Tiburcio stepped-up for the Dukes closing the first half with a two digit advantage, 47-36.

UB then charged back to life erasing a double digit deficit and making it a 56-52 affair behind Ranzae Cosme and Kendrick Basan, but the Dagupan based dribblers continued to draw baskets to stay ahead by ten in the end of the period, 64-54.

Rodcel Dollaga led the scoring for the Dukes with 21 points including five steals, while teammate Julius Palaganas added 18 points with five rebounds.

Darrien Ocassion scored 23 points for UB including five three-pointers made in the fourth quarter, while Cosme had 18.
