Cardinals too classy in BBEAL Athletics-A A +A

UNIVERSITY OF Baguio capped their season 27 dominance in the Baguio – Benguet Educational Athletic League by bringing more than twice the gold medal of their closest pursuer in athletics held at the Baguio Teachers Camp recently.
The Cardinals brought home 21 gold, 8 silver, and 9 bronze medals to close out their campaign with a bang in the region’s biggest collegiate league.
Jonfrey Opendo bannered UB in the men’s athletics, hauling three gold mints after dominating the 800 and 1500-meter run including the 800-meter low hurdles, while Johan Caido added two more from the 200 and 400 meter contest, including a second place finish in the 100-meter dash event.
Jalen Guiro de Castro snatched first place in the 100-meter dash and silver in the 200-meter race.
The Gen. Luna-based squad also bagged first place in the team event, 4x100m and 4x400m.
Rogel Lavandia won the men’s Javeline throw and snatched two more silver in the discus throw and shot put contest.
In the distaff, Melva Cawid (100m dash, 400m low hurdles) and Cristina Drio (200m and 400m dash) led UB in the women’s running events with an identical two gold medals. Cawid and Drio also added one silver each in the 100m low hurdles and 100m dash, respectively.
The Lady Cardinals also topped the 4x100m and 4x400m relay.
Jahnzel Udaundo (discus throw), Janel Vinegas (javelin throw), and Gemma Landisan (shot put) each went home with silver medals.
Two more gold medals were added by UB courtesy of Marla Felice Ellaga who won in the women’s long jump and triple jump competition.
The University of the Cordilleras Jaguars came in second with 8-18-5, while Saint Louis University Navigators took home 3-3-7.
Cordillera Career Development College Admirals went home with three gold medals while Benguet State University Musang had an 0-2-6 medal haul.
