UB bags 27th BBEAL overall crown

THE University of Baguio Cardinals ran away with the season’s bragging rights re-emerging as the overall champions for the 27th Baguio-Benguet Educational Athletic League.

Closing out with 14 gold, 4 silver, and 5 bronze medals in the general sport events, the perennial champions UB topped nine other competing collegiate schools during the awarding and closing ceremonies held at the University of the Cordilleras Saturday.

The Cardinals lorded a total of four out of the 16 sporting events which was categorized into two, men and women, including taekwondo, chess, table tennis, and the athletics competitions.

UB also snatched the season’s crown and centrepiece after stopping the UC Jaguars in defending and scoring a possible three-peat in the men’s basketball competition.

Meanwhile, the Lady Cardinals likewise displayed their spiking prowess after knocking down Saint Louis University Lady Navigators in the women’s volleyball finals.

UB further extended its dominance after landing an overall lead in the women’s archery, wushu, and swimming events.

The season’s host school, UC Jaguars came in second overall with an 8-13-3 gold-silver-bronze tally bannered by lawn tennis (men and women), and sepak takraw.

UC was also padded securing gold medals in the men’s badminton, archery, and wushu, while judo and softball were added from the distaff.

SLU place a decent third overall with 6-9-11 performing best in the men’s volleyball, swimming, baseball and softball competitions together with the baseball and badminton titles from the women’s side.

Benguet State University Musangs did not fade away from the gold tallies after locking hold into the football crown, adding second place finishes in the baseball, the men and women’s softball, and third ranks in sepak takraw closing with 1-3-1 for the season.

The Philippine Military Academy Cavaliers secured four bronze medals from the swimming (men & women), baseball, and men’s softball, while the University of the Philippines-Baguio Maroons placed third in the men’s archery and in the women’s basketball and taekwondo.

Other schools participating in BBEAL include Baguio College of Technology, Baguio Central University, Cordillera Career Development College, and Pines City Colleges.
