BAGUIO'S up and coming batted ball players will eye for a decent finish as they face tougher opponents from all over the country in the Little League Philippine Series to take place April 20-27 in Marikina City.
Bracing for the tough grind ahead, baseball and softball players from the elementary and secondary levels have already started their regular training to strengthen their chances of winning in the national sports series joined by the best little leaguers in the country.
Baguio City National High School coach Alexander Dalog said they aim to bring back the glory days of batted balls that once put the region, particularly the city in the Philippine sports map.
“This is simply renewing the said sport in the region, particularly here in Baguio City which is becoming a wide pool for potential international players,” Dalog said.
With the team’s exposure in the Philippine series, Dalog said batted ball enthusiasts from the Cordillera region will get to rediscover potential talents and harnessing more support from the community and local government.
“This is a big chance for us to call back the attention ng community to love and support our sport,” said Dalog.
“We don’t really dream big of winning instantly since we are neophytes in the tournament again this year, but until there is a chance to move forward in the competition, you may expect our best to go for it,” Dalog added.
According to the BCNHS coach, together with other coaches from the Benguet, they are targeting to send a total of 110 delegates to banner the Summer Capital for the upcoming contest.
Dalog said they will at least send four teams in baseball and softball from both secondary and elementary schools.
With the delegation, each team will be comprised of 15 players including coaches and chaperones.
Earlier last month, Councilor Peter Fianza, signified his help to generate funds for the baseball and softball team in the national competition.
Over 120 teams from all-over the country are expected to compete during the national competition.
The Philippine series is an elimination tournament to select the country’s representative for the Asia-Pacific Regional Tournament in July.
