Mantilez, Abahan tops 3rd Mt. Ugo Trail Marathon

ULTRAMARATHON runner Dino Mantilez topped the men's division while long-distance marathon rising star Sandi Menchi Abahan ruled the distaff side of the recently concluded 3rd Mt. Ugo Trail Marathon held in Kayapa, Nueva Vizcaya March 30.

Mantilez defended his overall title after setting a course record of 4 hours 47 minutes and 10 seconds in the men’s 42K category.

Meanwhile, Abahan, a first time runner in the 42-kilometer race, lorded the distaff as she also set a new course record finishing with 5 hours 29 minutes and 41 seconds in the uphill and downhill course.

James Tellias came in a close millisecond clocking 4:47:37 to score a second place finish as Mark Villafuerte secured third place with 4:54:32.

Rashel Peña together with Rosselle Duldulao completed the top three spots in the female division of the 42-kilometer distance clocking 7:53:38 and 8:01:39 accordingly.

Marcelo Bautista meanwhile outrun others in the 21 kilometer division with 1:55:23 toppling last year’s champion Joel Bengtay, who settled for second crossing the finish line with 1:56:17, while another local runner Ronald Wangwang settled for third clocking 1:59:00.

Lou Angela Limbo (2:38:40) snatched the top spot in the half-marathon female race with Mary Gold Dela Cruz (2:41:56) and Ishyl Pagnas (2:26:10) completing the top three finishers.

Dubbed “King of the Mountain”, the 3rd Mt. Ugo Trail Run is the second of the three-part running series including the Hardcore Hundred Miles held last February and its next stop Four Lakes/ Old Spanish Trail 65 scheduled May 24.

Some 113 runners and enthusiast from the region and neighboring places joined in the third installment of the race event backed by the local government of Kayapa, Itogon, Benguet and the Nueva Vizcaya Tourism Office.
