FILIPINO fan favorite Eduard Folayang of Baguio’s famed Team Lakay and former lightweight world champion Kotetsu Boku are confirmed to be the co-main event when One Fighting Championship returns to SM Mall Of Asia Arena on May 2.
Asia’s largest mix martial arts organization with a 90 percent market share recently announced three additional fights for the One FC event dubbed "Rise of Heroes" topbilled by the bantamweight title match between world champion Bibiano Fernandez and Mazakazu Ueda.
The additional bouts also include an exciting flyweight match between another popular Filipino fighter from Team Lakay, Rey Docyogen, and Guam’s Joshua Alvarez and middleweights, Leandro Ataides against Tatsuya Mizuno.
“One FC is coming back to the iconic Mall of Asia Arena with the biggest MMA event Manila has ever seen! MMA fans in Manila will be blown away by the Filipino stars we have lined up to compete,” One FC CEO Victor Cui said.
Cui added Folayang and Docyogen will proudly represent the Philippines in the world-class competition.
Folayang is the current URCC welterweight champion and is beloved in the Philippines for winning numerous gold medals at Wushu and for representing Filipino warriors on the largest stage in Asian MMA.
Known for his fearless fighting style and indomitable spirit, he is a fan-favorite with multiple come-from-behind wins. He has beaten top fighters such as A Sol Kwon, Vincent Latoel and Felipe Enomoto since joining ONE FC, and is now looking to take a step further in his MMA career by facing former One FC lightweight world champion, Kotetsu “No Face” Boku, in front of 20,000 home fans.
“I’m very excited about the fight. Basta ako I’ll train hard for it,” said the soft-spoken native of Sadanga, Mt. Province.
Boku enters this contest fresh off his TKO win against French fighter Arnaud Lepont, at One FC: War of Nations and is eager to extend his winning streak to boost his already impressive 21-9-2 record.
The inaugural ONE FC Lightweight World Champion has a reputation for his iron chin and explosive knockout power and has never been stopped with strikes. With two prominent strikers facing off in the cage, this bout is an immediate favorite to deliver the best knockout of the night.
Docyogen earned his nickname "The Punisher", thanks to his relentless ground and pound skills. As a member of Team Lakay, he has excellent endurance and devastating kicks that have become a signature of the gym.
The diminutive flyweight has proven that he can finish his fights via both KO and submissions and will be eager to impress and will look to come out on top against Alvarez.
Alvarez is one of the top mixed martial artists from Guam and boasts a 12-5 record as nine of Alvarez’s 12 victories are by way of submission and he also has two TKOs to his name.
Alvarez’s One FC debut was a fight he took on short notice against Koetsu Okazaki at One FC: Moment of Truth. He now gets an opportunity at a full training camp and will return to Manila seeking a signature victory.
