FOR the third year in a row, Igorot boxing promoter Brico Santig captured the WBC Asian Boxing Council Promoter of the Year Award during the official ceremony held April 9 in Bangkok, Thailand.

Santig, manager of the Highland Boxing Gym in La Trinidad, Benguet won the honors for the third straight year after signing journeyman Rey Loreto who would eventually capture the IBO Jr. Flyweight World.

Despite his paltry record of 18 wins and 13 losses, Loreto bombed his African opponent in Monaco to a third round knock out to win the international belt.

Aside from Loreto, Santig also manages several boxers who in one way become Asian champion which includes former WBO Orienatal bantamwieght champion Dayer Gabutan, WBC Asia Council Continental featherweight champion Alvin Tam, Matteo Handig who won the vacant IBF Pan Pacific minimumweight title over Katsunari Takayama; Jay-ar Estremos who holds the WBC Asia Council Continental light flyweight title; and WBC Asia Council Continental minimumweight champion Donny Mabao.

Also in his stable of champion boxers are WBC Asia Council Continental lightweight Nelson Gulpe; WBC International flyweight champion Rey Migreno; and former WBC Asian Boxing Council female minimumweight title holder Jujeath Nagaowa who is now into mix martial arts.

"I share this special WBC award with my family, wife, daughter and my dear boxers. They make all in my life possible. Also, it's a blessing to be recognized and supported by an organization as prestigious as the World Boxing Council (WBC). This award encourages me to keep on doing my best in promoting boxing in Asia and in my country The Philippines," Santig said as quoted in philboxing.com.

Another awardee was Pariyakorn Ratanasuban of the prestigious and powerful OneSongChai Muay Thai Boxing Promotions who was acclaimed as the WBC Asian Lady Promoter of the Year. OneSoncChai is by far the top Boxing promotion outfit in Thailand.

Last year, the La Trinidad Municipal council, after his recogniztion as top promoter was given commendation for having received the highly coveted award.

“Santig, who is a bonafide resident of La Trinidad had been passionately advocating the promotion of martial arts having been a fighter, trainer and presently owner, promoter, and matchmaker from the Highland Boxing Stable,” the resolution stated.

The resolution added Santig has produced numerous titles and his achievement as a promoter had given honor, pride and inspiration to the people of La Trinidad.
