MT. KINABALU climbathon bound Sandi Menchi, together with some of Baguio and Benguet’s elite runners are seen to test their mettles against foreign runners anew for the upcoming The NorthFace 100 slated May 3-4 to start and finish at the Baguio Camp John Hay.

Menchi will be backed by the Philippine Skyrunning Association in her campaign this time in the 50 kilometer race distance after topping the 3rd Pilipinas Akyathlon held in Itogon, Benguet early January this year.

Abahan, a third year BS Education student from the University of the Cordilleras, said she will definitely do her best running in the junior side event of the TNF 100.

“Wala naman special preparations in joining the event, pero ang pinaka-motivation ko para manalo is simply my passion in long-distance running,” Abahan said.

Cited as one of the toughest footraces in the Philippines, the largest foreign and Filipino trail running event is seen to attract more than 1,200 participants coming from all around the globe for the third straight year.

The 23 year-old female runner together with other runners from Baguio and Benguet will try to once again dominate the annual ultra-trail race.

“Hopefully I will end among the top finishers, and I wish all my co-runners from Baguio and Benguet the best of luck during the race day,” Abahan said.

“TNF 100 will be a good training for me since I will have the chance to compete with world class ultramarathon racers, an opportunity to really measure my skills,” Abahan added.

Elite runners from different countries will test their mettle in three different race categories namely 100, 50, and 22-kilometer events that will hold a 30, 18, and 4 and-a-half hour cut-off time.

The NorthFace 100 Philippines is part of a six-country series which has become the most well received and anticipated distance trail running in the Asia Pacific region offering a unique experience that traditional marathon and road running cannot match.

The TNF 100 Baguio-Benguet series will be handing over close to P190,000 in cash prizes aside from gift checks and products to the top finishers.
