BAGUIO residents will soon get to see changes in the city's main sports facility as the first phase of the proposed rehabilitation and development of the Baguio Athletic Bowl is expected to possibly start third quarter of this year.

Representative Nicasio Aliping Jr. told Sun.Star Baguio the much need improvements for the oval might start by July this year.

"We have been working to speed up the implementation of the proposed renovation as early as this year but due to the needed approvals from the different agencies of the government we’re looking at it to start around the third quarter," Aliping said.

Aliping added although the approval from the higher offices might take longer than expected, he is confident the project will be finished before the city’s hosting of the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association in 2015.

"Once we get a go signal to proceed, we will look upon the possibilities of a 24/7 construction basis, which I think might be enough to take away the worries of the construction getting in the way of CARAA or even Panagbenga," Aliping quipped.

The congressman said earlier the city will just have to wait for Department of Budget and Management’s nod to start the construction of the dilapidated sports facility after being endorsed by the Department of Public Works and Highways last March.

A total of P31 million will be used for the facility’s improvement and out of the P31 million, Aliping was able to earmark P14.7 through the help of the DPWH while the remaining P17 million will come from the supplemental budget of the city as promised by mayor Mauricio Domogan.

The lawmaker added he has already submitted a request to the DPWH for another P20 million in 2015 to be used as additional funding for the phase two of the area’s improvement.

The project aims to make improvements on the oval’s tartan tracks and the drainage inside the sports facility and construction of a new grandstand.

Aside from the P31 million budget, the city has earmarked another P8 million to replace the swimming pools heating system.
