Cordillera jins score gold medals to shoot up region-A A +A

STA. CRUZ, LAGUNA -- Tae kwon do jins kick started their medal hunt for the region by generating three gold, two silvers, and three bronze medals in the poomsae competition of the on-going 2014 Palarong Pambansa.
The region currently sits at number four in the over-all medal standing with nine gold medals including six silvers and six bronze medals as of 2:30 PM of May 7.
Bets from the National Capital Region started strong with 23 gold medals, 10 silvers, and 14 bronze medals to take an early lead while host region
Southern Tagalog in far third with a 13-13-14 medal haul.
Region 6 or the Western Visayas Region is at third with 10-8-10.
Christian Mark Duntogan led the region as he topped the individual performance in the secondary boys along with siblings Tristan Dale and Troy Nathaniel Cayago to secure a bronze medal in the secondary boys group competition.
The elementary boys and girls grabbed one gold medal apiece powered by Erwin Dhale Langawen, Ramma Chandra Leporada, and Eugene George Garcia. In the distaff, Jessa Tumlayen, Chelsea Xen Tacay, and Josea Dizon Dominated 16 other regions to take the top spot.
Tristan Dhale also snatched a silver medal in the individual secondary boys, while Tacay also secured the second spot in the individual secondary girls.
Angelica Joyce Gaw took a bronze medal in the individual secondary girls contest and teamed up with Leslie Marie Agyamoc and Mary Ceniza Quiambao to secure third honors on the secondary girls group performance.
Taekwondo coach Arnold Agnayon promised more medals from the sparring contest.
"We plan on generating more awards from the sparring competition, a lot of the competitors especially athletes from ARMM surprised a lot of other spectators including us," Oglayon said.
"I guess in the sparring contest we may have a better chance to make taekwondo a gold mine, hopefully all our entries will deliver a good performance," Oglayon added.
The 2014 Palaro, which housed close to 15,000 delegates, officially opened May 5 and will end on the 10th with 21 sports event.
