INDEED, everyone who watched the ONE FC: Rise of Heroes last Friday live in Manila and even via live streaming on the internet and on their television sets were so ecstatic and proud of the performances and wins of Team Lakay fighters Eduard Folayang and Rey Docyogen.

Eduard "The Landslide" Folayang has dominated all three rounds of his bout with Japan’s Kotetsu "No Face" Boku. Showing his Wushu Sanshou wrestling mixed with free-style wrestling, everything was set. The game plan to strike and use his arsenal of kicks was well executed. Both have their own attempts of submissions but successfully got out of it.

He has shown impressive and convincing unanimous decision win which absolutely brought him one step closer to the ONE FC lightweight title held by Shinya Aoki. It will all depend upon the decision of Matt Hume, the vice-president and match maker of the said promotion on which will they match Eduard next, but for sure he is on his way to the top.

Rey "The Punisher" Docyogen, on the other hand, has shown that he still has it when he defeated Josh Alvarez from Guam via unanimous decision. He has proven that he can still beat the best in the weight division which is heavier than the division that he dominated in the URCC.

Docyogen is the king of the pinweight division in the Philippines and the flyweight division has a lot of talents but Rey has proven that he can also be one of the best even in the flyweight division of the biggest promotion in Asia.

Whatever is next for Eduard and Rey, they have definitely had their time in ONE FC: Rise of Heroes. What I’m sure about is we can still see Eduard more often and Rey maybe not so often because he might decide to concentrate on his architectural profession but perhaps we can still see him fight a few more before he can finally hang up the gloves.

All five Filipinos who were on the card that night won including Jujeath Nogaowa, Eugene Toquero and Ana Julaton.

All I can say is that Philippine MMA may just be young but we are definitely growing and we are growing fast.

Even the sports fans are getting more and more into it. They are getting more informed and educated about the sport; that MMA is not a violent sport. Yes it may be physical and bloody at times, but just like any other sport, it promotes sportsmanship, discipline and respect.

And as Filipinos, it gives our fighters pride and honor to represent the Philippines in the international arena showing to the world how great Filipino athletes are.

Thank you to all the fans who keep on supporting our Filipino fighters and to the sponsors who supported Eduard and Rey: Vicious Circle, Cherifer Premium, Venum Fight Wear, Muscle Pharm, Muscle Tech, Bagsan Law Office, Dr. Dave Taclobao and Tiong San Department Store and Supermarket.

Moving on, as we have seen in the previous fights of Team Lakay, all aspects of MMA has been shown. We have improved every aspect of it including our ground games. And as we do this, we continue to do improve the whole team’s performance and the up and coming fighters’ performances by letting them compete in our local events such as our Team Lakay Grappler’s Cups.

In here, the students and athletes have something to test themselves on what level are they in. This is where they can test if their grappling and wrestling skills, which they learn in their gyms, are improving or not.

We will then have our 17th Team Lakay Grappler’s Cup at the Baguio Convention Center. as part of Martial Arts Festival 5, an annual event hosted by the Bravehearts Martial Arts Institute.

Participants are welcome to compete in the said grappler’s cup. Just register at Lakay La Trinidad Gym located at Km.4, La Trinidad, Benguet.

Likewise, martial arts fanatics and parents can accompany their children to watch the two-day Martial Arts Festival which will start on May 10th where there will be different martial arts discipline competitions of kids and teenagers such as tae kwon do, wushu taolu, grappling and XMA.

The 17th Team Lakay Grappler’s Cup event will be held on the second day of the festival, May 11, 2014 from 8:00 in the morning to 5:00 in the afternoon. Fans can also come and watch the competition free and get to see and meet our Team Lakay fighters.
