THE province of Benguet is eyeing for supremacy in wrestling when the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (Caraa) opens February next year.

Division sports coordinator and Benguet athletic manager Pablo Khayog Jr. told Sun.Star Baguio the plans of improving the wrestling team of the province for 2015 Caraa.

“So far, we are planning to make Benguet the power house in wrestling when Caraa opens next year,” Khayog said.

Khayog added the province will be forming a reliable coaching staff that will manage the provinces’ wrestlers for the months of training.

“Siguro by July, we will be able to proceed with our plans. By then, maybe we can already get to know the things really needed to make wrestling one of the prominent sports of Benguet,” said Khayog.

“Right now, we will still coordinate it with the local government unit to get their support and maybe help to improve the present plans we have,” Khayog added.

Cordillera came to surprise 16 other competing regions, snatching a second place overall finish with a total of three gold, two silver, and four bronze in the recently concluded 2014 Palarong Pambansa held in Sta. Cruz, Laguna.

Wrestling was among the demonstration sports for the 2014 edition of Palaro including futsal, billiards, and wushu.

Baguio City will host the 2015 Caraa after the successful hosting of the province of Benguet early this year.

The other Caraa members are Abra, Apayao, Ifugao, Kalinga, and Mt. Province. (Mark Victor Pasagoy)
