AMATEUR cagers from Baguio City and Benguet opened their title bid as the second season of Budz Cup Invitational Basketball Tournament tipped off at the Easter College gym on Sunday afternoon.

Twenty seven local teams in different brackets will vie for the crown in a sport aimed to develop camaraderie and sportsmanship among participants.

Event organizer Edwin ‘Budz’ Edades said the second installment of the tournament will be more exciting than the previous staging held in December of 2013.

“This will be very much interesting as teams participating in our tournament showcase the best of amateur line-ups from Baguio City and Benguet, truly the second season will be sizzling with pure basketball action to be witnessed,” Edades said.

Edades said the best coach title will be the new feature of the tournament.

“We have seen during the first Budz Cup the importance of coaches in winning tight games, their efforts to keep each player focused and their love for the game. This time we will at least give them the recognition they deserve,” Edades said.

Teams are divided into four separate brackets.

Bracket C includes last season’s defending champion Dagsian United, together with Benguet Electric Cooperative-1, Golden Pine Hotel-1, Sergeross, and Codalian.

Bracket D line up will be headlined by Angluben, Noble Trend Unbound, Jireh, Virac, Masters, and Nuebe.

Last season’s title holder Son Anton, will face-off with Baguio Country Club, Zymed, Diaz Construction, MD Care, Generals, and Beneco-2 are in bracket E.

KTM (Kiss To Mommy), One Love, El Beat, BBCCC, Band Y, Big Boss, Nylle, and GPH-2 are in bracket F.

Edades said new teams will be added as registration is still open in its first week.

Supervised by the National Amateur Basketball Referees Organization, the tournament will be giving out cash prizes and trophies to all champion teams and outstanding players at the end of the season.

Interested teams may still call or text Edades at (0917)862-6901 or (0908)560-7423 for more information.
