Lady Navs in contention for PVF crown-A A +A

THE Saint Louis University Lady Navigators are off to a strong start in a bid to improve last year’s finish in the ongoing 2014 PVF National Intercollegiate Volleyball Championships.
After a decent second runner-up finish in last year’s Intercollegiate tilt, the Lady Navigators are eyeing a spot in the finals after disposing University of Assumption, 25-14, 24-26, 25-17, 25-13, and later on Philippine Women’s University in their second game, 25-14, 25-15, 25-21 at the SLU Prince Bernard Gym.
Lyceum Polytechnic University, who earlier downed PWU, scored yet another lopsided victory against Holy Angels University, 25-8, 25-8, 25-17.
Over at Cordillera Career Development College gym, the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons, last year’s first runner-up, also remain strong in their title bid hacking out an easy straight set win over Lyceum of the Philippines University - Laguna, 25-11, 25-19, 25-17, and National College of Business and Arts, 25-19, 25-15, 25-14.
In the men’s contest, defending champion National University opened their title retention bid by overpowering UA in just three sets, 25-20, 25-13, 25-11 while as the SLU men’s squad rattled the visiting Bicol University closing out 25-17, 25-18, 26-24.
The PWU men’s team escaped a gritty Bulacan State University squad after five sets in bracket C, 25-15, 22-25, 21-25, 27-25, 15-11 while Adamson scores their second straight win as they surrendered UP-Diliman 25-17, 25-18, 25-20.
LPU-Laguna later on bounced back from their earlier loss against AdU, finishing University of Baguio in bracket B 25-22, 25-22, 25-19 while the UP Maroons came back to the winning side dislodging NCBA 25-19, 25-15, 25-14.
Bannered by 13 teams in the men’s division and nine equally competitive squads in the distaff, close to 300 collegiate athletes will battle for honors until May 31.
