IGOROT mix martial arts fighter Mark Eddiva is hoping the long flight to Brazil won’t affect his training as he enters the UFC cage for the second time around.

The second pure bred Filipino to fight inside the octagon, Eddiva remains optimistic of his May 31 fight, set in Sao Paulo facing hometown hero Kevin Souza in UFC Fight Night after his shocking win over heavy favorite Jumabieke Tuerxun of China in The Ultimate Fighter China finale in Macau last March 1.

“I hope all the hard work we had during our training pays off. This will be a tough fight for me but I’ll promise to give my best,” said the undefeated fighter with a clean 6-0 record during a send off party and fund raiser event.

The many time Southeast Asian Games gold medalist was the receipient of an earlier fund raising worth P10,000 from the Apaches while the JayCees Senate added P5,000 even as more than P5,000 was raised during Thursday's fund raiser organized by Edezza Torres.

Souza has an impressive record of 14-3 slate, including a split decision win over Felipe Arantes in September last year.

“Souza is a good stand-up fighter and he should not be taken for granted. That is why we have prepared Eddiva well,” added coach Mark Sangiao who left for Brazil May 27 together with Eddiva and Iranian wrestling coach Ali Heydarabadi.

The Sadanga, Mt. Province native is considered an underdog going into the fight but Eddiva’s improvement of his ground game with the aid of coach Heydarabadi will be a big help to the Team Lakay fighter’s graound and pound game.

Souza’s three losses came via submissions through rear naked chokes and this might be the chance for Eddiva to concentrate and exert his chances against the Brazilian.
