TEAM Codalian dictated the tempo of the ball game to dispose Dagsian United in bracket C as the 2nd Budz Cup Invitational Basketball Tournament formally opened during the weekend.

Codalian overpowered the inaugural champion in a one-sided conquest, 95-59, at the Easter College gym Sunday night.

“We might have gotten a little lucky, or may I say the boys just started out with a very strong performance,” said Codalian coach Orville Wankey.

Wankey said the team is eyeing to make it past the eliminations and hope to carry on with the momentum of their strong opening game.

“Last year we failed to enter the semis since we got bad losses during the preliminary round, maybe this time we could do better by making a good start and hopefully a better finish than last year,” Wankey said.

“In the upcoming games, I hope the team could get a little more well-rounded, wala pa yung mga designated point guards namin so we’ll see our improvements later on,” Wankey added.

The architects opened the ballgame with an early two-digit advantage, 21-10, after team Dagsian failed to convert a basket until the 5:00marker of the first period.

Dagsian U remained hapless with their attempts at the break of the second quarter as Codalian continue to deliver damage led by former SLU Navigator King Pascual, who dropped five of five from the three-point line closing the first half at 56-26, Codalian in front.

Dagsian staged a came back at the break of the third canto as Aries Gazmin, Carlo Muñoz, and Flynn Dao-wan chipped in a combined 16 points, but it was later on wiped out as Joven Caleño, Rey Gabino, and Vic Nuñez teamed up for another 25 points leading Codalian 80-38 at the close of the period.

Pascual led Codalian with 26 points including five rebounds, while Nuñez, Caleño, and Gabino added 18, 17, and 14 respectively.

Flyn Dao-wan capped 18 points including five three-pointers in the second half, as Muñoz and Gazmin added ten and eight points accordingly for Dagsian.
