GOLDEN Pine Hotel rolls to its third straight win by walloping Codalian, 91-89 in the ongoing eliminations round of bracket C in Budz Cup Invitational Basketball Tournament’s second season.

The hoteliers stood their ground against the tough Codalian squad by making their presence felt in the shaded area to boost their championship campaign Tuesday night at the Easter College gym.

Former UC Jaguar Jessie Tomlin powered Golden Pine with a double-double performance scoring 18 points and 13 rebounds including seven in the first four minutes of the opening canto to lead by four, 22-18.

But the architects managed to get their groove in the 8:44 mark of the second quarter after Alvin Tadeja, King Pascual, and Joven Caleño chipped in for 19 points to close the first half with a six point edge, 41-47.

Codalian managed to lead the pace for the first five minutes of the third canto before the hoteliers exploded with 16 points coming from Lye Singalaoa and Kevin Orduña to advance by three points, 74-71.

Codalian stayed neck and neck as they tied the ball game at 83 all, with 4:28 left in the pay-off period but Tomlin came to the rescue and picked up what he left off in the opening quarter taking care of the rebounding chores and added seven more points to close out the ball game.

“We are all happy, everyone is doing well on their assignments every time they are on the floor. It just keeps getting better for the team right now,” said Golden Pine playing coach Noel Balianga.

“We still need to get past other teams. For now, we just need to focus and take the motivation we had from the beginning of this tournament,” Balianga added.

Orduña lead GPH with 23 points, Singalaoa capped 15, while Alvin Alindoza added 12 scores including seven rebounds and two steals.

Rey Gabino recorded his season best 31 points for Codalian, as debuting Tadeja added 18, while Pascual and Caleño chipped 14 and 11 points.
