THE most anticipated collegiate sports competition in the Cordillera region is expected to draw thousands as the Baguio-Benguet Educational Athletic League officially opens its 28th season August 30.

Hosted by Baguio College of Technology this year, the local version of UAAP and NCAA will tip off expecting to lure students from the different schools members.

“We are halfway ready with the formal opening, and as expected we always look into the support and friendly competition to draw fans that has always been the biggest success of the annual occasion aside from the sport events,” said Season 28 commissioner Willy Antonio of BCT.

According to Antonio, the planning for the opening ceremony is still in the works as proposals for the upcoming season awaits the approval of the executive committee.

“We have been discussing the things that we need to retain and develop, last season’s hosting definitely set the borders of how this league can improve and as a target all the member schools agreed to help in each scheduled activity,” Antonio quipped.

He added turnover ceremony from last year’s host University of the Cordilleras is set on July 2, where deliberation of the proposed improvements will be finalized.

He mentioned BCT agreed to accept the challenge in hosting the almost three-decade collegiate league apart from being the youngest of the 10 school conclave.

The BCT Atoms has been with BBEAL since 2011, where it has been among the upstart school aside from the big three universities based in Baguio City.

“There is more than two months left for the much needed preparations, I guess that would be long enough for the league to prepare as much surprise will be added for Season 28,” Antonio said.

He added the 28th season of the BBEAL was set in the last week of August to give way for member schools who will be opening their classes second week of August.

Aside from BCT and UC, members of the league are Baguio Central University, Philippine Military Academy, Pines City College Inc., Saint Louis University, University of Baguio, and the University of the Philippines-Baguio.

La Trinidad based Benguet State University and Cordillera Career Development College are also member of the collegiate league.
