Vinluan: Spawn of bad times-A A +A

CONSIDERING the variety of sports disciplines, the culture of sports has always been ‘violence’ from basketball to boxing etc. because from the Greeks to the Romans, the variety of sports discipline today can be said to be a direct descendant of the later from Greko wrestling to the time of the gladiators where winning is a must.
In light of this history, modern day sports still resemble what was to be a barbaric competition between gladiators where competitors desperately wanted to be on the list of elite athletes and their ticket of being one among legendary sportsmen.
However, looking at our sports world, a critique would reveal a great deterioration in the moral character and tradition in sports that has disappeared and detracting from its elegance therefore fuelling its brutishness.
Back then when major events like boxing for example were held in stadiums, athletes were respected for being brave enough to step into the arena, and the audience in general are more compassionate and even appreciate the efforts of a losing athlete.
This was then a familiar atmosphere to every sport event.
However, people in the sports world eventually got greedy, sports promoters or organizers wouldn’t as much as possible pay for even an event venue instead get sponsors who would pay more to stage a competition, in hotels, casinos, or stadiums with a much higher price on tickets. It made clear sense, sports had become commercialized.
Is this the present culture of sports we would like our children to grow into, where people pay big money to be entertained and wager, and the only way for them to get respect is to hurt other athletes for fear of their selves getting hurt.
Brotherhood in sports in this kind of sport culture is left behind the backseat as well as a tainted professionalism in sports.
