BAGUIO City-based archers hit their targets right and eventually cruising to an overall finish in the recently concluded Manila Polo Club Outdoor Archery Tournament held in MPC Archery Range in Makati City, July 6.

Splitting honors against other contenders from Luzon, the Baguio City Archery Club pulled four gold, eight silver, and five bronze medals in the tournament backed by the Philippine Archer’s National Network & Alliance (PANNA).

James Quilal-lan, from the University of the Cordilleras, led the Summer Capital with two gold mints after topping the Junior Men category and eventually teaming up with Junior Women’s category bronze medallist Donallen Villamor in the Junior Men & Women team contest.

UB Cardinals Kareel Meer Hongitan also helped the Summer Capital by topping the Senior Women’s category and snatched one silver in the Senior Men & Women’s team event.

Danielle Jasmin Espiritu together with fellow UB Laboratory Elementary School schoolgirl Jemimah Mina took a gold and a silver respectively in the Advance Bowman category before joining forces for a bronze medal in the team event competition.

Jemuelle James Espiritu (SLU-LES) and Alon Yuan Jucutan (UB-LES) salvaged the second and third ranks in the Advance Yeoman event, while fellow Cardinal Emmanuel Balbuena and Princess Justine Mae Talimio (UB-Prep), who also caught one bronze in the team events, generated one silver each in the Junior Men and Women’s Beginner Adult group.

Jayson Mendoza generated two more silver medals from the cadet and team event contest, while Janus Ventura (UB) capped one more bronze from the Advance Bowman team competition.

“Actually tuloy-tuloy lang na nagiging overrated ang Baguio sa mga tournaments dito sa Luzon and we are happy with the performances na ipinapakita ng mga athletes, actually yung mga NCR based teams ay nag-uumpisa na maging sakit sa ulo itong mga archers natin,” said archery coach Franklin Espiritu.

He added they are looking forward to reinforcing talents by continuously training for more competitions held in and out of the country.

“Kaya naman ang advice lagi sa kanila ng mga coaches is to continue practicing and eventually lalo pang magiging malakas ang Baguio everytime na sasali tayo sa mga outside competitions that are hosted either local at kung pupuwede intenational,” Espiritu added.
