BARANGAY Queen of Peace leaned on the heroics of Joel Salvador and Jerry Rigos to escape Barangay Kagitingan in the ongoing eliminations of the 5th Samahang Barangay Pangkalikasan Invitational Basketball Tournament at the Engineer's Hill covered court on Saturday.

Salvador opened the scoring binge for Queen of Peace scoring 10 points to end the first quarter at 17-9.

Kagitingan however put up a fight in the second period as Gil Dayag, Bob Catamora, and Franco Cordovis slowly trimmed the deficit and came within one, 36-35 at the break.

Bigmen Alvin Castro and Robby Cordoviz also made their presence in the shaded lane as Kagitingan continues to play catch up and trail Queen of Peace by two, 44-42, with 3:01 remaining in the third period.

Sensing trouble, Rigos dropped seven straight points to close the period with a 52-45 lead for Queen of Peace.

Kagitingan once again tried to stage a comeback as Franco fired back to back triples for a 56-51 count with 7:58 remaining in the ball game but Rigos rallied his teammates Mark Anthony Sumawang and JR Manong and combined for 14 points that sealed the win for the team.

"Nanalo kami because of our teamwork, kung mapapansin mo may mga leaders naman sa scoring sa amin pero yung role sa rebounding, assists and defense ay present all throughout sa ball game," said Salvador who finished with 20 points.

"Kung may secret weapon man na nangyari sa loob ng court ngayong araw kaming lahat yun, lahat kami nagtrabaho para manalo," Salvador added.

Rigos finished with 14 points and seven rebounds, while Manong added eight, all dropped in the fourth quarter.

Castro and Franco each scored 12 for Barangay Kagitingan, while Robby and Catamora added eight and seven, respectively. Earlier, Barangay Loakan beat Barangay Ambiong, 56-46.
