GOLDEN Pine Hotel dominated the competition anew after seizing a 110-107 victory against Team Sergeross in bracket C of the on-going eliminations of the 2nd Budz Cup Invitational Basketball tournament.

Down by a three-point deficit, 29-32, at the end of the first period, Golden Pine turned the tides in the second period and eventually sealed their seventh win for the season in Saturday night’s ballgame at the Easter College gym.

The hoteliers rallied on an 11-2 run at the star of the second quarter as Lye Singalaoa teamed up with Kevin Orduña and Ralph Mendoza for a 40-34 edge in the 5:59 mark of the period before closing the first half at 51-45.

Orduña together with former teammate in the UB Cardinals Alvin Alindoza and Dave Stapely led GPH with a combined 24 points in the third canto that suspended the efforts of brothers Rey and Richard Bilibli, who carved 22 points in the quarter pushing Sergeross to an 85-78 deficit going to the fourth.

Sergeross managed to trim down the gap 107-106 in the 1:54 marker of the pay-off canto after Jao Estrada came in with his four-of-six three pointers but GPH managed to lock in the defense as Orduña converted three more points that doused cold water to their opponents.

“We give credit sa effort na ginawa ng kabilang team but unfortunately our goal here is to win and ginawa lang namin ang dapat gawin,” said GPH playing coach Balionga after the game.

“Masyado pang maaga to dream of the finals but for now ang focus muna namin is to cross the semis and after that yun na, dapat kasi step by step lang huwag mag-madali,” Balionga added.

Orduña and Alindoza lead GPH with 20 points apiece, Stapley finished with 16 markers and ten rebounds, while Noel Balionga and Vic Manalili added nine points each.

Rey generated 26 points including five steals, Richard finished with 23 points and 19 rebounds, while Efren and Ton-Ton Mariano added 17 and 16 points respectively.
