Lawana Cup: Honeymoon edges City Camp Central-A A +A

BARANGAY Honeymoon pulled away in the payoff canto to escape a gritty City Camp Central, 83-74, in the ongoing eliminations of the 5th Samahang Barangay Pangkalikasan Invitational Basketball Tournament-Lawana Cup 2014 Saturday morning at the DPS Compound covered court.
After a 54 all deadlock at the end of the third period, Barangay Honeymoon charged with a 16-6 run in the first five minutes of the payoff canto before charging to their second straight win in the tournament backed by the Association of Barangay Councils of Baguio.
Honeymoon leaned to Arnel Santos, who displayed an all-around effort with 20 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, two blocks, and two steals.
Santos teamed up with Renato Villanueva and JR Mondata in hacking 13 combined points for a 70-60 edge at the 4:30 mark of the fourth period.
City Camp Central matched the offensive end with Mark Molina, together with Toteng and Louie Catbagan, who helped trim down Honeymoon’s lead to three, 70-67, with 3:30 remaining in the fourth.
Molina, who finished with 15 points, managed to lead his team’s defense and converted five more points to trail at 76-72, but later on fouling out in the 1:30 mark.
Louie together with PJ Catbagan tried to take over in the last minute of the quarter but remained luckless as City Camp went on scoreless in the remaining seconds of the ball game.
Villanueva finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds with Nuñez also capping a double-double outing with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while teammates Bernard Dumpit and Mondata generated 14 and 10 respectively.
PJ led City Camp Central with 17 points and five steals, Toteng added 14, while Louie finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds. (Mark Victor Pasagoy)
