WITH the Summer Capital set to be the next host of the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association meet, the Department of Education (DepEd)-Division of Baguio is getting a head start in preparation for the 2015 joust.

DepEd-Baguio Supervisor for MAPEH and Sports Coordinator Fernando Eleponga told Sun.Star Baguio the department including the local government unit and other concerned offices are already planning ahead in acquiring necessary arrangement for February next year.

"Nagpatawag na actually si Mayor Mauricio Domogan ng emergency meeting last week and so far he ordered all the concerned offices to coordinate with each other para maging maayos ang hosting ng CARAA," Eleponga said.

According to Eleponga aside from the rehabilitation of the Baguio Athletic Bowl, Ded-Ed-Baguio is already drafting procedures which include the overall hosting of the annual regional sports event.

“We are not new to this but we want to improve kung ano man ang naging mga kulang when we last housed CARAA dito sa atin. The current trend requires us to progress as our neighbor provinces sa Cordillera did sa succession ng pagiging host ng event,” Eleponga quipped.

After six long years, CARAA will return to Baguio after hosting the affair in 2008.

He added the drafted request for the budget is already completed and will be immediately passed for review to the city council.

“Meron na tayong proposal para sa kailangan na pondo, I guess it will be just up for the city to approve it since we already itemized all the needed expenses. We slightly raised the requested allocation since as we know it was six years ago at kung parehas pa rin ang hihingiin natin siyempre magkukulang na as of this time,” Eleponga added.

According to Eleponga, DepEd Baguio is asking for P2.5 million from the city for the 2015 CARAA, P500,000 more than the P2 million used back in 2009.

He said the monetary counterpart from Dep-Ed is still in process.

According to Eleponga, the P500,000 will be used to purchase medals.

“As early as possible we want to finalize this already, bukod kasi sa hosting we will also be busy sa sarili nating eliminations which is the Palarong Panglungsod in December,” said Eleponga.

“Dapat by that time ready na tayo, yung eliminations natin sa division should already be the dry-run ng hosting natin,” added Eleponga.

Close to 5,000 athletes including province delegations is expected to be present during the annual sports event coming from the different areas in the Cordillera including Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Mountain Province, Kalinga, Ifugao, and the host Baguio, City.
