PINSAO Pilot dismantled MRR-Queen of Peace, 93-85, after a sorry loss in their opening game in the on-going eliminations of the 5th Samahang Barangay Pangkalikasan-Lawana Cup 2014 Invitational Basketball Tournament.
Pinsao shifted to higher gear in the pay-off canto to run away from an early ten-point deficit in the third period and get back to their winning ways in Saturday morning’s ballgame at the Military Cut-off covered court.
Jessie Culos and Ceasar Pal-og capped the ballgame with 19-points apiece to pull through a 59-69 deficit at the close of the third canto.
Pinsao exploded with a 16-2 run at the break of the fourth quarter for a 75-67 advantage with 5:47 remaining in the clock courtesy of Culos, Pal-og and Rogelio Quibrantos.
But the MRR-Queen of Peace team fought back in the remaining minutes of the ball game as Jerry Rigos, James Laroco, and Alfie Quiñones closed the gap at 81-74 with 3:20 left.
Rigos managed to pull seven more points for an 85-81 count with 1:20 left in the pay-off but it was Brylle Lumiid who stepped up for Pinsao recovering rebounds and dropping the last eight points that pinned down the gritty Queen of Peace squad.
“This is a good comeback, talagang masakit rin yung talo namin sa first game this season because we were supposed to win unfortunately time was one of our enemies and it cut us short by less than a tick of a second,” said Pinsao coach Alvin Olosan.
“Sana we can do winning more often, mahaba pa ang season so probably magkakaroon pa ng momentum ang mga boys natin sa team,” Olosan added.
Chris Banatan finished with a double-double scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds while Lumi-id and Quibrantos generated 13 points each.
Rigos led Queen of Peace generating 24 and adding 15 rebounds as Laroco finished with 16, while Melvin Batara, Joel Salvador, and Quiñones closed with 14, 12, and 10.
Earlier, DPS drained Scout Barrio 95-92, while Barangay Pinget ousted PMA-Fort Del Pilar 86-79.
