THE proposed supplemental budget to fund the rehabilitation of the Baguio Athletic Bowl remains hanging despite urgency in preparation for the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association meet next year.

Councilor Elmer Datuin told Sun.Star Baguio the proposed P100 million from the city remains on hold as Mayor Mauricio Domogan skipped signing the budget plan before going to the United States last week.

"So far the requested supplemental budget is still on hold, the mayor skipped signing the budget before he left so we will wait for him until he comes back from the States," Datuin said.

Domogan is expected to return from the US next week.

Datuin said Domogan was asking for a listing of how the budget will be used for the project.

"The mayor was actually asking first-hand the structural master plan for the area, which I think was the reason why he skipped on the matter until he returns," Datuin said.

Datuin said the City Building and Architectures Office (CBAO) was assigned to work with the Department of Public Works and Highways-CAR to finally come up with the design for the lone city sports arena.

“There are a few confusions between the two offices on how the plan should be started. The mayor tasked them to finalize everything before proceeding with the project,” Datuin quipped.

Apart from the P100 million supplemental budget from the city, the DPWH-CAR already allocated some P14.7 million through the initiative of Congressman Nicacio Aliping Jr. earlier this year.

According to Datuin, the allocation from DPWH will be used mainly for the reconstruction of the damaged bleachers and construction of a grandstand.

Meanwhile, the budget from the city will mainly be used for the improvement of the track oval and drainage system.

The scheduled rehab of the city’s sports facility is set for the hosting of CARAA on February 2015, where close to 5,000 delegates coming from the other provinces of the region is expected to attend.
