ON AND OFF the court, member schools of the Baguio – Benguet Educational Athletic League is fostering its rivalry.

Following the success of last year’s Mr. and Ms. BBEAL, season 28 host Baguio College of Technology is once again pursuing the pageant as one of side events when competition unfurls later this month.

Season commissioner and BCT sports director Willy Antonio said the working group will double their efforts in improving the newly introduced contest of the almost three-decade sports association.

“The outcome of last season’s Mr. & Ms. BBEAL was very outstanding. It drew more supporters than what the ten-school assembly expected and I believe we should plan on making it more impressive for the second time around,” Antonio said.

Antonio said with the success of the pageant they will try to encourage all the member schools to participate.

“It really marked a new taste on how the collegiate competition banner each school’s flag and certainly it will be among the best ways to promote each and one,” Antonio said.

“We already imparted the event’s management to the University of the Cordilleras since they were the first organizers of it,” Antonio added.

Last season, the pageant was joined by Benguet State University, Baguio Central University, Saint Louis University, University of Baguio, and UC.

Season 27 commissioner Aleck Mapalo of UC said the arrangements for the event are already being developed as for the sport pageant’s second staging.

“It really drew a lot of crowd and supporters from each school. The intensity of a friendly college competition was flagged when we jumpstarted the event for the first time so we really look forward in associating the contest to BBEAL,” Mapalo said.

Apart from Mr & Ms BBEAL, Love Run was also incorporated as side event for the sports association. The working group also thought to include a bodybuilding contest.

The 28th year of BBEAL expects to tip-off on August 30 with its opening rites for the first phase lining up eight different sports competition including basketball, chess, badminton, table tennis, sepak takraw, swimming, and archery.

The second phase events seen to hit the net on January will have volleyball, athletics, wushu, taekwondo, softball, baseball, football and judo.

Other schools of the league are Philippine Military Academy, Pines City College Inc., the University of the Philippines-Baguio, and Cordillera Career Development College.
