Sanitary routs Cabinet Hill in Lawana Cup

DEFENDING champions Sanitary Camp rolled to its second straight win for the season after drubbing Cabinet Hill-Teachers Camp, 108-83, in the ongoing eliminations of the 5th Samahang Barangay Pangkalikasan-Lawana Cup 2014 Invitational Basketball Tournament.

After a 29-27 lead at the close of the first period, Sanitary Camp took advantage playing in their home court to topple CHTC Sunday afternoon.

Arvin Gamboa led Sanitary Camp finishing with 18 points including the 10 he made in the first quarter which helped to kick start his team.

Gamboa teamed with Efren Mariano, Fergal Bugayong, and Louie Caranto in extending the lead against CHTC, 52-41 at the close of the first half.

But CHTC managed to spark hope at the break of the third canto as Alvin Ora, Kevin Goña, and Jobert Javier triple-teamed in the offense to trim the gap down to two, 53-51, with 7:10 remaining.

CHTC tried to recover from the lead they held in the first five minutes of the ballgame but failed to sustain the hot hands as the offensive rally commanded by Gamboa and Mariano led Sanitary Camp to a 77-65 edge going into the fourth period.

CHTC tried take a second chance in bouncing back in the pay-off but was pinned down as Mariano, Bugayong, and Richard Hernandez took charge of the offense to close their second game on a high note.

“We stopped them with our good defense, that was the key for winning today,” Sanitary Camp coach Boyet Guansing said.

“We intend to defend the title this season, I guess that is an agreement among the whole of the team. If we can sustain this high level of performance all throughout the following games, I guess we can sweep the eliminations,” Guansing added.

Caranto scored 13 points, Bugayong added 11, while Mariano and Hernandez finished with 10 points apiece.

Ora led CHTC with a double-double scoring 27 points including 10 rebounds, Goña capped the game with 21 points and eight boards, while Javier added 10.
