A BAGUIO CITY official expressed optimism on the proposed resolution transferring the management of the Baguio Athletic Bowl to the office of the City Administrator.
Proponent Councilor Elmer Datuin told Sun.Star Baguio he is optimistic the approval of his proposal will very soon follow.
“The motion elevated by Concilor Faustino Olowan just supported my recommendation to transfer the administration of the sports facility. I am enthusiastic that soon enough it will follow accordingly,” Datuin said.
Olowan earlier raised a motion to the city owned sports arena will solely be used by athletes and sport activities.
The alderman got the nod of the majority from his fellow law makers after raising his motion to let the area be solely used for sports activities only.
Earlier last month, Datuin presented his proposal to the city council recommending the transfer of the operation and management of the Baguio Athletic Bowl from the City Environment Office (CEPMO) to the Office of the City Administration particularly under the City Sports Office (CSO).
According to Datuin, the resolution has been endorsed to the Committee on Tourism, Special Events, Parks and Playgrounds which he heads and is currently evaluated.
“It has been endorsed for review, I think with the given time we can hope for positive results since as I see wala naman problema from the CEPMO office,” Datuin quipped.
Under the current set-up, the city owned sports arena is currently being managed and maintained by CEPMO.
"Who else will be the very rightful administrators of the place but the Sports Office, actually I do not see any problem to the proposal since capable naman talaga and at the same time alam nila ang dapat na gawin diyan sa Athletic Bowl," Datuin said.
The seven-hectare sports land, aside from venue for the Palarong Panlungsod, Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association and other sports events is also used as venues for the annual Flower Festival and other concerts.
Once the athletic bowl’s management is turned over, the CSO will be required to define and formulate general guidelines for the sports facility in terms of operation, management and maintenance.
The CSO, under the City Administrator’s Office will also be tasked to spearhead the preparation of the Athletic Bowl as venue for the upcoming 2015 Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association.
