Vicente: The body as weapon-A A +A
Thursday, August 21, 2014
THE complexity of the human body is a wonder even for those who study it inside and out.
In the world of martial arts, the body is studied in two aspects, its strong point and its weakness.
It may sound simple but to understand how strong the human body is, every inch of it must be understood and must be tested. In the famous Chinese medicine, body parts are identified to have areas where one could pinpoint strong and weak based on a technique involving the practice of yoga.
The human body in the world of martial arts is one complete arsenal of weapon. Each part could be trained to do a role or two in actual combat and in sports.
For example, the legs, the whole part of from the thigh down to the feet could be trained to kick, block kicks, walk and run which covers three different areas of combat, sports and daily living.
However, this is not to discourage the use of handheld weapons but to promote the use of basic training before augmenting it with anything.
The reason why weapon augmentation often fails to be maximized is because one does not actually understand the dynamics of the body and any weapon controlled by the body and the lack of coordination between the two make the weapon useless.
For seasoned martial artists and sportsman, they understand the basic of honing the basic component of their field and that is the body.
Through years of practice, seasoned martial artists and sportsman hone their skills and every movement becomes a muscle memory.
