Baguio Day Cup attracts 29 squads

CLOSE to thirty amateur squads from Baguio City and Benguet opened their bid for basketball supremacy as the 8th season of the Baguio Day Cup Invitational Basketball Tournament tipped off at the Easter College gym August 24.

Supervised by the National Amateur Basketball Referee’s Association-Baguio, the tournament aimed to promote physical health, sportsmanship, and brotherhood among the 29 participating teams sets to platform four bracket contests.

Overall coordinator Edwin Edades said the eight-year-old tournament encourages camaraderie among its players at the same time promote a healthy lifestyle in the community.

“This will be a more competitive season, more teams have enlisted themselves than last year and we are expecting to continue promoting basketball as a development sport in the city,” Edades said.

Last year, Baguio Day Cup housed a total of 16 local teams.

Baguio Day Cup was conceptualized to deliver a competitive play of basketball within the city by awarding trophies to its champions including the giving awards to its exemplary players.

Playing squads in bracket C include team Masters, ISAAC 1, Sergiross, Benguet Electric Cooperative 1, and Jann-Edd.

Bracket D will be bannering teams comprising ISAAC 2, Santisima Trinidad, BENECO 2, Nuebe, and Golden Pine Hotel.

ISAAC 3, Northern Trends Unbound Inc., BBCCC, Z Radio, Son Anton, Zymed, Rianella, TelePerformance, XC3 will be competing in bracket E.

Meanwhile, Masters 2, ISAAC 3, Royale, Bureau of Jail Management and Penelogy, Chias, BigBoss Cars, Nylle and Kylle, TJ Collection, and Crown Legacy will be locking their horns in bracket F.

The basketball season expects to run from August until the third week of October, all games will be played at the Easter College gymnasium.
