EDNAS School of Dagupan made short work of defending champion Saint Louis College La Union as the Baguio leg of the Milo SBP-Passerelle twin tournament opened Sunday at the Easter College gym.

With a solid opening canto, Ednas trounced two time champion SLC with a 63 -35 victory in the passerelle division to open their campaign on a high note.

Victor Paragas fired a game high 17 points to lead Ednas while Don Llanilo added 12 as Ram Suarez chipped in 10 while SLC’s Arvin Antipolo led the squad with eight points.

“The boys are really inspired to join in this kind of exposure. They are determined to win and really worked hard for this game,” said Ednas head coach and former PBA player Cris Calaguio.

University of the Cordilleras Laboratory High School also opened their campaign in the passerelle division by downing Baguio City National High School, 83-58.

The junior Jaguars limited City High to only 11 points in the first 10 minutes of the ball game while firing away 24 points before slowing in the second period with BCNHS catching up at halftime, 43-30.

But that was the last hurrah for the Gov. Pack road based squad falling behind in the third period by 19, 63-42 at the turn of the pay off canto.

Carl Bañate, Parminder Cudail, and Mark Garcia all hit 14 markers while Garnett Gamboa chipped in 10 for the junior Jaguars.

City High was led by Kristoffer Alvab who had 14 while Brix Dizo had nine points.

In the small basketeers division, UC Elementary School toppled Lucban Elem. School, 40 -29 in the opening game.

UCES led 7-0 halfway in the opening canto but Lucban found their groove back on a 9-1 run to lead 8-9 at the end of the first period.

After a promising start, Lucban slowly withered, despite trailing by only two at the half, 21-19, and managed to score 10 points in the last two quarters.

Hamed El-Habib scored 11 points to lead UC while Vince Orduña and Lance Galanza chipped in seven points each.

Justin Gregorio and Jim Carl Gatlic had six and five points for Lucban. (With a report from Kathlene Antonio)
