SOME 400 taekwondo jins from the Baguio City and other neighboring areas are expected to gather at the PFVR gym on September 6 as the 2014 CAR Taekwondo Championships kick off.

Backed by the Cordillera Administrative Region Taekwondo Association (CARTA), the annual sports tournament is celebrated in part with the month long charter celebration of the city.

"So far invitations had been handed out as early as last month. We hope to gather more competitors this time as we aim to develop and promote this martial art amongst our young and senior athletes," Oglayon said.

He said some 300 participants coming from the Summer Capital alone will be competing in the grade school division up to the seniors division.

“There will be around 300 from Baguio, other teams from the region including low landers are also expected to appear during the tournament,” Oglayon said.

Organizers of the event said the tournament was arranged to unite local and visiting martial artists in fostering camaraderie and brotherhood in a highly competitive atmosphere.

They said medals and trophies will be awarded to winning competitors in the tournament.

Apart from taekwondo, at least nine other major sporting events were lined up to be included for the 105th Baguio City's Charter Month.
