Iniong debuts in One Championship

Monday, March 20, 2017

AFTER failing to see action inside the cage for at least 14 months, Team Lakay's Gina Iniong is set for another return.

This time, however, Iniong will strut her ware inside the One Championship cage as she debuts for the Singapore based MMA promotions which returns to Manila on April 21 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Iniong was signed to be part of the stacked undercard that will headline teammate Eduard Folayang who will defend his ONE lightweight world championship against challenger Ev Ting.

The top Filipino women’s mixed martial arts contender is set to take on Natalie Gonzales Hills in the atomweight division hoping to add another victory and improve her record of 4 -2 with three of them coming by thrilling finish, which includes two impressive submissions which include first round stoppage via Achilles hook against Vanessa Rico Fernandez in the first round in January 16, 2016 during the Pacific Xtreme Combat 51 event.

The former University of the Cordilleras student debuted in MMA against Sonrex Patanao where she scored a rear naked choke win in the first round in the Universal Reality Combat Championship-Baguio 2 back in 2010.

However, her second bout proved to be a wakeup call for Iniong suffering a unanimous decision loss against Xiaonan Yan in Martial Combat in July 2010. Iniong then returned to the cage three years after and scored back to back victories against Nathalie Heidel and Mei Yamaguchi in PXC.

Her championship dreams were derailed in 2014 after she got submitted by Cortney Casey via a rear naked choke in the first round in 2014.

Hills, meanwhile has already appeared in two memorable bouts inside the ONE Championship cage.

The 29-year-old Filipino-English fighter is considered well-rounded with solid striking and grappling techniques.

The event dubbed 'Kings of Destiny' will have eight world - class bouts which promises to feature the absolute best in local and international mixed martial arts talent.

“In addition to the highly-anticipated matchup between local hero Eduard Folayang and top lightweight Ev Ting, ONE Championship has confirmed a handful of compelling bouts between Asia’s top superstars set to take place inside the ONE cage on fight night. Fans will not want to miss all the action that goes down in Manila, as we are already gearing up for an absolutely electrifying evening of world-class mixed martial arts,” said CEO Victor Cui.
