WINNING the inaugural Brave Combat Federation bantamweight was no easy feat for Stephen Loman.
But the Team Lakay standout believes it was just a beginning of his long and grueling journey in the field of mixed martial arts, as he led Baguio-based athletes during the Kafagway International Sports Luminary Award (Kisla) spearheaded by the National Correspondents Club of Baguio.
Loman, a graduate of University of Cordilleras, received the “Super Athlete of the Year” in the annual sports awards supported by the City Government of Baguio.
“This award will inspire me a lot in my training and do my best in every fight,” said Loman of Team Lakay.
Loman was joined by coach Marques Sangiao who bagged the “Super Coach of the Year” award who was recently named as one of Asia’s bets MMA coach.
Former ONE Championship world lightweight champion Eduard Folayang was also honored during the awards rites at the Silungan Center where he receive the “NCCB Kisla Sportsmanship Award 2017” for his commendable display of sportsmanship after losing his championship belt against Martin Nguyen of Australia.
“Despite me losing the belt, I am still grateful for all the support,” said Folayang.
Other honorees during the awards rites are car racer Iñigo Anton, boxers Carl Jammes Martin and K.J. Natuplag, wushu players Islay Irika Bomogao, Liane Benito and Marian Tranyce; senior citizen athlete Erlinda Lavandia, wushu ace Divine Wally, PWD para-olympian Adeline Domapog, chess star Bea Mendoza and archers Karen Meer Hoingitan and Mary Queen Ibanez.
Also at the podium are the University of the Cordilleras together with its athletic director Danilo Cong-o; trakster Christian Bagsit, sanda ace Jomar Balangui, ultra- marathoner Sandi Menchi Abahan, sports patron Jossie Delinila and the Baguio-Benguet Educational League. (Roderick Osis)
