REIGNING World Boxing Organization Oriental bantamweight champion Dayer Gabutan is set to defend his title against a Thai challenger on November 20.
And what a way to defend his title, as Gabutan of Besao, Mt. Province is set to defend his title in front of his fellow Cordillerans to be staged at the Cordillera Career Development Center (CDCC) Gym in Buyagan, La Trinidad.
The Ambagiw, Besao native captured his first professional boxing title when he defeated Jilo Merlin via a unanimous decision (116-113 twice and 115-113) in their 12-round minor title fight last July in Angeles City, Pampanga.
After two years of strutting his wares in the local professional boxing, Gabutan finally hit pay dirt after he got help from Thai promoter Nari Singwangcha aside from the backing of Brico Santig - his local promoter.
Gabutan's victory against Julius Agcopra last May, proved to be his stepping stone to inch closer to the vacant WBO Oriental bantamweight division.
"Nung naghahanap sila ng ilalaban sa championship ng WBO, sinabi ng manager ko na si Brico na subukan daw naming lumaban tapos yun na," Gabutan said.
The reigning WBO oriental bantamweight champion has now a record of 11 wins, one loss and 2 draws with five knock-outs.
“Sa ngayon balik muna ako sa training. Long run tsaka sparring para sa stamina,” added Gabutan.
Also hitting the ring in the undercards are Remuel Obidos against Flash Apuya; comebacking Allan Tam facing Jayvee Alipio, Edwin Tumbaga clashing against Julius Alcopra, and Charlie Angel fighting William George.
Also in the undercard are Rey Loreto squaring off against Roy Jones, and lady boxers Jujeath Nagaowa and Baina Lando in the only female bout.
