THE promotion of Baguio's eco-tourism potential are set to greet racers from all over the world when The North Face (TNF) 100 hits the road April 24 and 25 in separate venues in Baguio City.
Jundel Llagas, The North Face marketing manager, said Baguio has a lot offer in terms of eco-tourism owing to its terrain and its cool climate which prompted the organizers to choose the City of Pines.
"Baguio is a perfect route for the race because of its terrain. The city also offers a lot of sights which the runners can take respite from the long and tough competition," said Llagas.
Now on its third year, The North Face 100 continues to test the endurance of elite athletes and challenge aspiring individuals to define their personal limits in the gnarly paths, knife ridges, and treacherous mountain trails amidst the cool breeze and pine scent of the Philippines' Summer Capital.
"Experienced trail runners, mountain climbers, outdoor enthusiasts and those craving for the active lifestyle will find everything they wish for and more as The North Face 100 traverses unexplored trails of Camp John Hay, the PMA grounds, Mt. Sto. Tomas and Tuba with a fitting finish in the iconic Burnham Park," added Llagas.
The ultimate challenge of endurance for these runners will be tested as they run the 100 kilometer race, the event that TNF 100 is known for.
The race also includes a 50k, 20k, 10k and group competitions.
Registration period for the event starts March 1 to April 11 through Raquel Serrano. Registration fee for the 100 and 50-kilometer race will be at P2,000, while the 22 and 11-kilometer footrace will be charged P500 for each participants.
The North Face 100 race director Neville Manaois said the foot race is expected to attract participants from Singapore, Japan, China, and even as far as the United States in Asia’s 1st Trail Running Ultra Marathon series with more than 1,000 runners expecting to join. (Roderick Osis)
