UB tops Igorot arnis championships

UNIVERSITY of Baguio romped off with 12 gold medals including eight silvers and seven bronzes to rule the 1st Igorot Arnis Club Invitational Tournament at the Benguet Capitol Sunday evening.
UB edged Salaknib Martial Arts System and the University of the Cordilleras for the over-all plum, placing second and third over-all, respectively, in the event also dubbed as 'Pineg-asan she Kaigorotan 2010’ organized by Igorot Arnis Club.

Salakanib had six gold, one silver and 5 bronze medals edging UC in a tight battle for second place with four gold, six silver and four bronze medal haul.
Majika Parreno, Hanna Gammong, Claire Donga-as, Shaira Jane Salingbay, Jessiel Bengtay, Mher Becyagen, Charlotte Velarde, and Sheila Badongen took the golds in their respective weight divisions in the women's division to pull UB in the team standings.
Their counterparts in the male division also scored four gold medals led by Rheymart Gutierez, Karl Alangui, Duncan Ap-apid and Richard Tambol.
Salaknib gold medalist include Nicole Gut-en, Kurt Pachong, Charmagne Sadcupen and Tito Conrado while UC's gold medalist where Earl Abare, Sharon Facat, Rosele Alvarez and Fay Becyagen.
Igorot Arnis Club-Pinsao Chapter come home with an eight gold medal haul including three gold, two silver, and three bronze medals for a fourth place finish over-all led by Harley Segnaben, Jonathan Angagca, Maureen Galingan.
Ampucao Arnis Team placed fifth in the tournament with three gold medals including one silver and four bronzes. Martin Holishio, Julius Martin and Renan Alindayo took the gold medal in their respective weight division.
Igorot Arnis Club-Easter College Chapter came home with two gold medals, four silvers and one bronzes for a sixth place finish over-all led by Rowena Rullan and Jonathan Talbo.
Other gold medalist in the event joined by 227 arnisadores from Baguio and Benguet are Granthill Mislay (Igorot Arnis Club - Our Lady of Mt Carmel), Rheynalyn Latus (Igorot Arnis Club - BSU Chapter), Sanches Bugnya (Catlubong - Buguias Arnis team), and Marie Bacayan (Spninx YMCA Arnis Team).
Some 21 arnis teams from Baguio and Benguet took part in the one day competition with Igorot Arnis Club led by tournament director Fidel Pa-ay leading the tournament, the first of its kind in Benguet.
