Web-based nutrition school available to public

IN A BID to eliminate malnutrition, a web-based nutrition school was launched to maximize the use of technology in the promotion of food and nutrition to every Filipino.

The nutrition school was established by the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI), in partnership with Nestle Philippines, which gives Internet-based education both to nutritionists and non-nutritionists.

Charina Javier of the FNRI media service said the e-school would serve as a virtual interactive school for food and nutrition lessons to facilitate message delivery to all sectors of society.

The school offers modular courses on food and nutrition and provides a forum for the learners to interact with each other.

Included in the courses are modules on basic nutrition, nutrition in the life cycle, nutrition and diseases, foods, meal management and the state of the country's nutrition.

Those who are interested to enroll in the nutrition school could visit the website at www.nutritionschool.ph.

Along with the nutrition school is the establishment of e-nutrition, where essential information on nutrition could be readily accessed.

The site, according to the FNRI, promotes transparency and accountability in government operations as it allows electronic dissemination, and the utilization of nutrition surveys and results that are significant in poverty alleviation planning and program implementation. (JC)
