Cebu will be capital of Visayas Republic
CEBU CITY — Governors from the Visayas are out to prove that they are serious in their proposal to secede and create their own republic if President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is removed through extra-legal means.
They began their work Thursday by creating two teams to assess the country’s situation and to study the planned Visayas Republic.
Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia said Cebu is being eyed to be the capital of the proposed state, but she refused to answer whether she is also considered to head the republic.
The Visayas leaders, who reiterated yesterday their statement of support for President Arroyo, also refused to say if they will make Arroyo the president of the proposed republic.
“I would not want to second guess the President,” Garcia told reporters.
Well…. whether Gloria IN or OUT, this could be a turning point for the Visayas to have some form of autonomy. A clamor, Mindanao have envisioned for a long long time, too.
As long as there is always an Emprialist Manila, there could never be UNITY amongst us PINOYS!

Whatever is the outcome of Impeachment, we in the Visayas and Mindanao should have an agenda or alternative to bank on.
First, if Gloria is UNSEATED, let’s push for FEDERALISM, if Parliamentary prevails, then LET’S DO WHAT THE GUVS HAVE IN PLAN.
Secondly, if Gloria is NOT UNSEATED, let’s push for FEDERALISM still, we’ll probably get HER support, if not, LET’S DO WHAT THE GUVS HAVE IN PLAN
In essence, it’s either FEDERALISM OR WHAT THE GUVS HAVE IN PLAN. We’ll probably get US support with Federalism.
REGIONALISM has been engrained in the minds and soul of most Filipinos for centuries, grouping us in smaller units such as a STATE could reduce it to 14 REGIONAL DIFFERENCES (possibly), instead of 79.
I have heard this Federalism not so long ago when the Osmenas came back from their hiding places after Marcos. Lito Osmena is always pushing this idea and I thought then it was cool. Fas forward…. look at the Osmenas now they practically have grown richer than we could have ever imagine. I agree that the Osmenas have a vision for development but it they also have a parallel vision of making them selves even more richer. Getting rich at the expense of the Cebuanos ????? I bet they have benefitted even more than the Cebuanos.
And Now Federalism ???????? Visayan Republic ?????? well the Osmenas had their time of making themselves rich…. it would probably be the Garcia’s turn.
Just look at those officials calling for this Federalism…. I dont need to say anything more !!!!
It is so pathetic to see our Gov. Gwen Garcia sporting this Federalism gig. Magkatawa man lang sab ta. We could hardly even pay the loan for the SRP ug sa new Mactan Bridge !!!! samutan pa sa away nila sa uban mga Politico sa Cebu. She could not even open the new South Road when it was close by the Godfather Tomas.
I also dont think that our local politicians are ready for it. For sure they are ready for one thing that is how to pose themselves to get the juicy details in running this Federal Govt.

In America, the people are Supremely Powerful. Not in the Philippines, because of our cultural background and heritage. We were subjected to humiliation and submissiveness under the Spanish rule for 377 years. Our colonial mentality has never changed, even if Spain and Portugal has updated theirs we still cling to the “old disk”. The people have to be educated about their rights as well as power (not streets power) in a democratic government. This is a GOVERNMENT OF THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE, AND FOR THE PEOPLE.
There’s no other form of government that we can suggest to introduce a much-needed CHANGE in our society and governance. Parliamentary is not an alternative to Presidential. We need to have a decentralized government, one for State and one for Federal. This way we can excel as a State with less interference from Central government like we do have at present. The Pork Barrel system is the worst system of running the government. Before the needed help reaches the poor, the barrel is empty, only the smell of Pork is in there. In a State government, the Governor runs the State using the revenues collected from sales tax of the businesses located in that particular State. The national government has No Hand in managing the State government. Pork Barrel system will be totally eliminated. If there is a law to be passed in a particular Province or County as we call it in the US, that Proposition has to be voted by the people in that province or County. If passed, then it becomes a law for that Province or County only.
The present politicians may not be ready for it. We will not rely on them. We’ll have a new breed of honest public servants once they see that CORRUPTION has been divided into Central and State. The most probable people to enter into this new form of government are those who are familiar of this governance in the US.
THIS IS TRULY A NEW OPPORTUNITY TO OVERHAUL THE ENTIRE CORRUPT POLITICIANS AND REPLACE THEM WITH QUALIFIED FILIPINOS WHO HAVE RESIDED IN THE US FOR AT LEAST 20 YEARS.
The State government is composed of several provinces. Cebu for instance is in the State of Central Visayas. Bohol, Negros Oriental and Siquijor are also included in this State. There are four provinces with only one Governor. If the Governor is corrupt, the people can pressure him from four provinces instead of just one. He can easily “cook†the people from ONE province but not from FOUR. Do you see the difference?

I admire your stand on Federalism. I just hope that the Osmena’s, Garcia’s, Martinize’s, Rama’s will share the same vision. I have been to the USA and I see the effects of Federalism. I also think that this is not the right time yet to have this issue made on public when the whole country is in turmoil. Mura man gud we are distancing ourselves to be on our own when most of our Filipino brothers in Manila are in a quandry. It is so unchristian to have this movement right now. Wrong timing. We may voted for GMA with more than a million votes but she put it to waste …. She invalidated her claim as the President. Let us solve this crisis first before we even move on to this Federalism. And please local Politicians stop Grandstanding on this Federlism Issue …. spare us of your politicking…. not one of you is qualified to run the Federal Govt. of the Visayas.

Bottomline — Cebu will experience civil war against the entire Visayas region and so is Davao which is just a small portion of Mindanao. There will be peace and I mean rest in peace in both Cebu and Davao.

Thanks sa imong very long repsonse. But I dont necessarily agree with your opinions. Swerte gyud ka Rosemarie that you are already living in the USA. I just hope someday the Phiippines will be as rich as the USA and Cebu cebu will be as prosperous as California.
You said na kalimtan nalang ang mga binuhatan sa mga politico niadtung panahon. I totally disagree with this statement. Why on earth would we allow ourselves continually being ruled by thieves and corrupt officials. Why would you support a movement spearheaded by corrupt politicians. These politicians are hiding under the cloak of Federalism. They are the same people who enriched themselves at our expense.
For the record the presidency of Cory and FVR did nothing but trouble. Look at what FVR did to all governement own corporations. Gi hurot ug baligya. Unya what is happeing right now we are all paying for it. Mahal na ang kuryente… dapat lang na tawagon si FVR ug father of PPA…. This PPA has done nothing but to add the more misery to the Filipino people. I just cant imagine how many kick-backs , under the table deals ang nakuha nila sa pagbaligya aning mga Power Companies.
I have stayed in the USA a couple of times. At most 6 months per visit … usahay mo extend up to a year. I dont really believe na ingon ana ka united ang mga Filipinos sa United States. What ever may happen to the Philippines the Fil-Ams will always send money to their relatives back home. So dont say na ingon ana lang kadali na dili pag putol padala ug remittance. NOT ONE Filipino organization in the USA has the clout to influence the FIL-AMS on when or how to send remittances to the Philippines. Sad to say but most Filipinos who have been living the USA for more then 15 years they dont really care much about our Country. Sure they voice out their opinion, pero kutob lang dinha…. they dont exert an effort.. they could hardly even put a dollar on donation boxes for the poor back home.

FVR selling government corporations was indeed the biggest profitable transactions he ever made to himself, that is, setting aside the payola he received for the entry of wireless telecommunications – Smart & Globe. The only good thing I can remember, he also sold Fort Bonifacio to his Armed Forces although the big piece of the pie were to his cohorts who now runs D-Fort. What’s more, the reclamation area along Roxas Blvd.????????????????? where the most expensive freeway in the Philippines can be found — ta daaaa!! Diosdado Macapagal Highway… costing 1 billion pesos per kilometer (how long it is? 8 kilometers!!!) Wowwowweeeeee!
