Arroyo’s trip to Saudi

A MALACANANG official said Tuesday that President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will be asking King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia to pardon several Filipino prisoners there as part of her upcoming visit in Saudi this weekend.

“I believe that is the usual practice (of Muslims) during the holy month of Ramadan,” explained Deputy presidential spokesman for Economic Affairs Gary Olivar.

While there, Arroyo will visit overseas Filipino worker (OFW) communities in Jeddah, Al Khobar, and Dammam and discuss with King Abdullah the welfare of OFWs in his country.

Arroyo earlier cancelled her schedule for UN General Assembly in New York to attend to the meeting with King Abdullah believing she could gain more with this privileged conversation. (more)
