Arroyo seeks int’l help on climate change

PRESIDENT Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Friday called on industrialized countries to help developing countries adapt to the worsening effects of climate change by giving financial and technological assistance and reducing their emissions.

Arroyo issued the appeal during the closing of the United Nations International Industrial Development Organization (Unido) conference on green industry in Asia held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC).

“We call on all developed countries…to table their firm, post-Kyoto greenhouse gas targets, taking into account ideals set by the international scientific community, and do this without conditionalities,” Arroyo said in her speech.

“We also call on them to assist developing countries to mitigate and adapt to worsening changes in climate by fulfilling treaty obligations to provide technological and financial support, including support for green industry,” she added. (more)
