Aboitiz to grace Sun.Star Forum

Roberto Aboitiz, chairman and chief executive officer of Aboitiz Construction Group Inc. and FBMA Marine Inc., will discuss the opportunities and challenges in the shipbuilding industry during the 2nd Sun.Star Economic Forum.

The forum, an annual presentation and discussion of economic issues and business opportunities in Cebu, will take place on Aug. 10 at the Arctic Room of Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.

Aboitiz will share his insights during a multisectoral discussion that will also solicit the views of private sector representatives in other sectors, like exports, tourism, franchising, academe, and information and communications technology.

Aboitiz is also director of Aboitiz Equity Ventures Inc., City Savings Bank, Tsuneishi Heavy Industries (Cebu) Inc. and Visayan Electric Company Inc., among others. In addition, he is the honorary consul of The Netherlands for the Visayas and Mindanao. (Sun.Star Cebu)

Guv to discuss economic vision

GWENDOLYN Garcia, the first woman to be elected governor of the Province of Cebu, will give the keynote address at the 2nd Sun.Star Economic Forum to be held on Aug. 10 at the Arctic Room of Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.

The governor will speak about her economic vision for Cebu Province.

Staged annually by Sun.Star Publishing Inc., the forum is an annual presentation and discussion of economic issues and business opportunities in Cebu.

It will also feature Economic and Development Secretary Augusto Santos and former lead economist of the Asian Development Bank Dr. Ernesto Pernia as speakers.

Investing in Cebu to be discussed

A MULTISECTORAL discussion on investing in Cebu will take place during the 2nd Sun.Star Economic Forum on Aug. 10 at the Arctic Room of Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.

The Sun.Star Economic Forum is an annual presentation and discussion of economic issues and business opportunities in Cebu.

A highlight of the forum is a discussion of the investment opportunities in the export, shipbuilding, tourism, franchising, academe and information and communications technology (ICT) industries.

‘UP 11’ economist to speak at Sun.Star Economic Forum

ONE of the 11 economists from the University of the Philippines (UP) who raised public awareness about, and proposed solutions to, the country’s deepening fiscal crisis, will be among the speakers of the 2nd Sun.Star Economic Forum on Aug. 10 in Cebu City.

Dr. Ernesto M. Pernia will speak about improving Cebu’s investment climate for growth during the forum.

Pernia was among 11 economists who released last August the paper entitled “The Deepening Crisis: the Real Score on Deficits and the Public Debt,” which analyzed the financial problems of the country and proposed corrective measures.

Sun.Star Economic Forum to feature top PLDT exec

Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) and Smart Communications Inc. president and chief executive officer Napoleon L. Nazareno will speak on how Cebu may position itself to attract more business during the 2nd Sun.Star Economic Forum on Aug. 10 at Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.

The theme for this year’s forum is “Investing in Cebu: Signposts for Success.”

The forum will also feature former lead economist of the Asian Development Bank Dr. Ernesto Pernia and National Economic and Development Authority 7 Officer-in-Charge Sandra Manuel, who will examine Cebu’s contribution to the national economy.

Under Nazareno’s leadership, Smart Communications gained a 58 percent market share in terms of cellular phone subscriber base and became the most profitable Philippine company in the process. Last June, Smart was cited as the Mobile Operator of the Year in the Philippines at the Asian MobileNews Awards in Singapore.

Sun.Star Economic Forum slated

Sun.star Publishing Inc. is staging its 2nd Sun.Star Economic Forum on August 10 in Cebu City.

The Sun.Star Economic Forum is an annual presentation and discussion of economic issues and business opportunities in Cebu.

Last year’s maiden staging of the event drew hundreds of participants, who gained from the wisdom of high-profile speakers like Vicente Valdepeñas, a member of the Monetary Board, the policy-making body of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas; Lilia Bautista, chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission; and Glenn Westerman, Lexmark International (Phils.) Inc. president and chief executive officer.

Also on hand to share their insights were Noel Mendoza, president of IBM Solutions Delivery, and Jesus Romero, vice president of GlobeQuest.
