In one of the sidelines during the 2nd Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN)Tourism Congress (the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Myanmar & Cambodia) at the Cebu International Convention Center in Cebu City held June 14-15, 2007, Department of Tourism Secretary Joseph “Ace” Durano, remarked that the Korean company, which was awarded with the rights to build an international airport in Carabao Island which is very near Boracay, will finally break-ground in the 4th week of June 2007. No hiyas, no horse fight

TWO highlights in the Kadayawan celebration are not included in this year’s events: the Hiyas ng Kadayawan and the tribal horse fight.

City Administrator Wendel Avisado said the reason for the non-holding of Hiyas ng Kadayawan is because there is nobody who could handle the event as grandiose as the previous Hiyas. (more)

Bohol highlights Otop products in Sandugo 2007

IN THE spirit of collaboration among National and Provincial government agencies, non-government agencies and local government units, the trade fair, agricultural fair, cultural and heritage showcase and LGU tourism showcase will be integrated in one activity —  the Sandugo 2007 which will be held on July 18 to 22.

According to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)- Bohol, Sandugo 2007 will feature the Boholano Culture and Lifestyle and will highlight the One Town One Product (Otop) of municipalities and cities.  The Otop is a government program that seeks to promote entrepreneurship and create jobs through identification by local chief executives of specific products and services that have competitive advantage.

DTI Bohol rationalizes that the integration of two major local fairs and component special activities will result in the upscaling of its overall attractiveness not only to locals but also for institutional buyers.

Sandugo events include the Sandugo Product and Lifestyle Fair, Creativity Agora, Creative Industry Forum, Bohol MagNegosyo Talk Show, Boholano Cookfests, Agricultural Entrepreneurship Fora, Social Development Forum and Cultural Peformances. (more…)
